I just recently got my first tank up (20 gal) with 3 cichlids and a pleco. I was wondering if you guys would be able to identify these 2 fish...couldnt get a pic of the 3rd cuz it hides...and also the bigger 1 thats hiding just recently started pulling out gravel from under this little log and stacking all the gravel in 1 spot so im not exactly sure what thats all about...if you guys could fill me in id appreciate it.

look like mixed aftrican cichlids to me.....the 2nd pic may be some kind of Hap......Hopefully some with more african cichlid experience can chime in

some kind of african peacock cichlid. I just picked up 2 of them at poopsmart for $1.50 a piece but they're not as ugly as yours. All I know about mine is they are some kind of african jacobfreibergi peacock cichlid.

a pleco is going to outgrow that 20g too. It would be mean to keep him in a tank that size once he gets 5"+. Instead of having to get a new tank just for a pleco take him to your LFS(local fish store) and trade him for a smaller one. They shouldn't have a problem doing that at all because they can get more $ for big ones.

Not as ugly as yours? Haha. His peacocks are worth double your Jacobfreibergis.

Both Aulonocara. First one is a male OB and the second one is some breed of Albino. 20 gallon will be too small to house them. It is okay to use it for now, since they are small. They should later be moved to a 40 gallon or larger (Preferably a 55).

thanks for the input...im in the process of building a stand for either a 55 or a 65 so that shouldnt be a problem.

moving rocks , digging
thats normal chiclid behavior
most of them are all interior decorators
yup they are african chiclids(but don't know which ones) saw a few in my lfs too
but had to pass, no place.

I agree that they are African chiclids. While I'm sure you know you'll need a bigger tank, the bigger the better. Don't worry about the moving of gravel around. Cichlids redecorate their tanks to suit their likes not yours. It's normal behavior for them.
