im gonna be switching my 75g over to sw for the first time. it will be a FOWLR, starting with very little rock and adding as permitted, and the fish can wait till the tank is ready.

stocking will definetely include an eel, proboably a snowflake and the rest will be decided around that. is crushed coral suitable for an eel, and how many pounds will i need for a 48x18 foot 75g?

as far as filters go i have at my disposal-
2 ac110's
2 penguin 350's with super cartridges
1 emperor 400 with super cartridges
1 magnum 350 can
2 hydor koralie 400gph powerheads
which filters would you run on this tank along with a protien skimmer, and what is a good skimmer for me without breaking the bank?

thank you:)

48 feet by 18 feet huh? how tall is it? 1 inch :D

yeah the CC should be fine but it tends to trap crap and debris rather well.. aragonite sand or oolitic sand work and look better IMO
the emperor or AC's and the magnum i think would be a good combo with the PH's in there

not very familar on the skimmer part , you'll get better answers later, from NOT me.. but i think bakpaks, octopus, and aquaC remoras are supposed to be good

how bout 1 ac110 filled with live rock rubble, the mag350 with mech and more rubble, and a coralife super skimmer 220?

and whats the deal with carbon, is it needed in a sw tank?

That'll do. Forget the CC & get sand.

yeah aragonite or oolitic sand is a much better choice than CC

and as for the filtration...
i suppose it'd be enough, carbon is like on other tanks.. not necissary but s great thing to run at least every now and then

Carbon isn't necessary for FW or even most SW tanks but with corals, it's usually run to prevent chemical warfare between competing corals.

or to remove meds are be used as a polisher..
if you want you can run it but i think i've never used carbon before.. it might come in the filter pads for the biocube.. but all the other tanks have run fine without
