Hi,

After about 8 years I'm back in the hobby and bought a 4ft tank second hand containing some cichlids.

I use to have all sorts of communal fish, but never had cichlids before. They look great but I think because they are so territorial, I don't like them as much, but I want to give it a bash and if possible breed them, which would be real nice.

I will post some pics and questions in the Cichlid forum, so please all help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
B

So because I do not know what species these are, I’m not sure under which forum to post in the Cichlids area, so I’m just going to add them here?

I would like some advise identifying them (specie name and male/female) if possible. Also I would like to know if I have a male, how will I know what the female looks like and visa versa?

Also I’m worried about the LAST one, as it is constantly swimming in this position (vertical) till one of the other fishes comes pass then it would turn horizontal and swim away, just to go back to this position. I assume this is NOT normal?

Will I be able to add any more to the tank? They are about 10cm on average each and the tank is 1200mm x 450mm x 500mm.

Please also feel free to comment on what you can see in the picture wrt the tank and the setup. I'm running a Cascade 1000 canister filter, 300W heater, power head and a power filter.

Thanks,
B
