In The Little Town Of Bedrock!
Ok so i WANT A PIKE!!!!!:D But i guess you guys dont no anything about them do you?:screwy: Ok so i have a 55 gallon and i want to put in a Saxatilis of some kind, at Big Al's they have some BEAUTIFUL pikes for sale, they had them labeled as Red Bellied Pikes i beleave or maybe just Red Pikes. Only problem they want 120 bucks!!!! Isnt that a bit much? although i dont even no if thats a Sax or not, i sure hope it is, its belly was a deep red and the pike seemed to be atleast 7 inchs long. So for the questions, give me all the info you got! One more problem actually i have a 5-6 inch Jack Dempsey in the the 55, can they live together or will the JD get beaten to rat **** ? lol from what i no is that a Sax can live in a 55 for life fine and that they get about 10-12 inchs long? and really thats it, so inform your newest recruit!!:D

First pretty much all female pikes get red bellies, so just because it has a red belly doesn't mean what species it is. As for 120 bucks depends on the species and what you are willing to pay for that species. If it is called a red pike chances are that it is
a Johanna, (Lugubris species of pike which get much larger than Sax's) as that is a common name. And I personally would not pay 120 for a johanna. If is a Lugubris of any kind it will not be able to stay in 55 for long as the get anywhere from 12-24 inches
depending on the variant.
If it is a Sax of some kind then you can leave it in there for life as they usually get 8-10"
Try to get PICS or find out exactly what species it truly is to get more detailed info on
the husbandry of a particular species.

Ok thanks for the info, ill try and get some pics next time i go into Ottawa I would go today but im only 14 and cant drive yet....well legally atleast:naughty: LOL I think i read on here that the more stressed they are the deeper there colours go as well, am i right? and if so then maybe thats another reason why the red was so prominent? Could someone list all the Sax's that they know of and how common they are in the hobby? and list a few that might fall under the describtion of this fish for the large pikes, Lug's?

Thanks,
Spence
