Nooo! Cracked snail shell! HELP!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've had quite a few snails in previous tanks and a good portion of them have, at one time or another, gotten cracks or broken shells. mine always grew back but you could tell that it was cracked before. looks like a scar. gives it personality!

i heard a snail can live with out its shell anyways. i mean when you think about it its just a slug with a house on its back.

makes me want to dremel one off.

a snail and slug are two completely different species

you might want to rethink what you just said. a snail will die without its shell.

My snail's shell has a small hole in it! I don't know how it happened! I want him to live... will it grow back? If it doesn't will he be okay w/o it? If he woon't grow it back and he won't be ok w/o the whole patched is there a way to make a prosthesis?

please answer quickly!

Thanks!

if its a small hole he will live, its minor damage

just keep his water hard (think calcium to build and repair its shell) and alkaline(to help build the shell) and he should be ok.

Actually you can use superglue if you really have to. I use this for sutures (stitches) on some of my bigger fish when they panic and tear themselves open badly. I imagine you could use almost anything inert to seal up a snail but if sealed up well it wouldnt repair itself. Just wait for it to recover if it hasnt died by now.
