anybody know of some interesting northern california natives? i'm in the sac/davis area and can't find anything interesting in the streams i've been too(putah and cache) other than some three spine sticklebacks in putah, but as cold as that water is i don't think they'll do well in captivity. i've caught a couple of very nice looking sunfish(bluegill, not native) but not much else. i'd love to get some sculpins but i have yet to find a place for any.

Do you have a permit for keeping any natives in California? Just wondering.

i've got a fishing liscense, i think thats all i need for most species, if not i can always look into getting one if i need if for a specific species. at this point i'm trying to find what kind of fish are in my area that might be interesting, so far only scuplins and pike minnows are native and interest me.

You need a permit from F&G to collect and keep native species in Commiefornia.

nice, guess i'd need to talk to some of the UC guys(some of them are doing breeding projects etc and give away some of the fish to students)
