I have had a pleco for about a week now. He is about 4 inches, and he thinks he is a salmon. He seems perfectly fine and happy and zooms around a lot and comes to the front of the tank to visit me.

My ? is this...he likes to go under the waterfall created from the filter and jump up into the water stream. He never quite makes it far up there and I have the area covered so he can't accidently jump out.

Is this normal for a pleco? He otherwise seems to be doing good. Before I got him, I noticed the decorations and tank side had a 'slimy' feeling on them, and he eats pretty well. He loves wafers, but he has to fight off the mollies and danios to get them.

Could it be that he is too big for the tank he is in? I plan on moving him into the 20 gallon once I am sure it is okay for him. I also plan on getting a 29 gallon soon and would like to move him into that one, as I know he will be getting bigger. I wanted a smaller one, but this one was 'playing' with my hubby at the store and he wanted him.

Mine used to hang on the wall above the bubble wand.

If its a common pleco like mine it will get big fast, hes in a 55 and at 10-11" he can just turn around in it. Mines maybe 1.5yrs old.

my normal plecos used to swim really wuickly up to the top and just pop their heads out tof the water for a split second then swim realy quickly down back to where they were. i think your pleco is fine, but what sized tank is he in, if its a 10 the no dought he will have to upgrade. if you want a nice cheap pleco that doesn't act weird get a normal bristlenose they are cheap and mine is a beast he cleaned up my whoile tank within a matter of days!
