One of my salmontail catfish (arius leptaspis or graeffei I believe) was injured when I got him, one of his pectoral fins was broken because the guy used a net to catch him and it got caught, it's showing signs of healing but also the first ray of the fin has turned a red/orange color, I hope it's not infected or is this just a standard part of the healing process? I've tried taking pics but they're so speedy I can't get a shot that shows it at all. They are about 10cm long and living in a temporary 45g tank, there's 3 of them, tank was seeded with heaps of filter media and plants from other tanks but there's still low readings of ammonia (0.25/0.5) 0nitrite and 0 nitrate, ph is 7.6

Sorry I really can't tell without a clear picture. 10 centimeters is about 4" long. Any sign of ammonia isn't good. Step up your water changes. What and how often are you feeding them? Don't let any uneaten food sit in the tank. Are you using a water conditioner is prime, safe etc? Either the tank isn't cycled or your overloading the bi-capacity of the tank. As far as infection goes it could e ammonia burn.

Hey the tank isn't cycled but I'm doing at least 1 50% waterchange daily, sometimes 2. I also seeded the tank with heaps of media from an existing tank so shouldn't take long. I feed them 2 times a day, hikari sinking carnivore pellets. They're awesome eaters and don't leave anything behind. I hope it's not burn, it doesn't look any worse today...not better either
