Hoping to find someone who has and knows a lot about the magnificent L128 Blue Phantom Pleco. I have had mine for a few weeks now, and all seems to be well. Just wondering, are they supposed to allow you to pick them up? He is quite active at all hours, looks healthy, all other fish are healthy. I see him all the time, but today while doing a water change, I reached in to grab something and noticed he didn't shy away from my hand, so i reached over and put my hand under him and held him in my hand. Is this normal? He was just active as usual through the course of the entire water change, but when contacted, seems lethargic. Is that normal?

If it matters, water parameters are ph 7.0 (RO water, and tested), Nitrites 0, Ammonia 0, nitrates are very low (my nitrate reader uses pink and I can't see pink, but it turns orange when it hits about 40ppm and I can see when it does that, couldn't see it). I do 30% water changes twice a week. The tank is planted and heavily wooded and temperature is 79.5 degrees. I have included pictures just because I love it when people put pictures up.

From my experience it's not normal. The only plecos I have (including a L128) that aren't scared of my hand was my Pterygoplicthys gibbiceps, which I had had for 16 years prior to his death. I do have a 40cm/16" Panaque nigrolineatus that will attack my hand given the chance. I'd be a bit worried by lethargy in a fish, but perhaps you just have a super comfortable and friendly pleco.

My 2 that I have had for years now. When I get close to them they are gone! A swoosh of the tail and sand flying everywhere they take off if I get to close to them. They are one of my most active plecos I have ever had and keep. That sounds odd that you can do that. I would be keeping a close eye on him to make sure nothing pops up with him.

Oh okay. I have a lot of oxygen in my water. I can't figure out what's wrong with him.

Well, he died. No idea why. Water is perfect, no other fish show any problems whatsoever. Not cool.
