my non-dominant socolofi has been digging a lot more than usual lately. it seems like it is forcing a way from the outside into one of my decor. is this normal?

its ok, my africans like to trench out underneath rocks all the way down to the eggcrate.. if you mess it up, they will retrench..

well he dug all they way to the undergravel filter. is he ganna break it? or will he just stop digging their?

i doubt it's strong enough to break the UGF lol

just some people have told me that as a precaution to put fishing net down over the UGF, but i didn't so i was just a little worried. the reason i have it is cuz when i was just starting off my cuzin who i thought highly of cuz from a beginners POV who had never kept fish before he seemed like the smartest guy in the world when it came to fish (now i know otherwise because most of what he told me was wrong) but he said that i HAD to have a UGF, and i never got around to taking it out.

ugf's are notorious for not being very effective with african cichlids (or any digging fish).. because they trap ALOT of poop underneath the filter, causing nitrates to be high.. plus africans like to trench, and that makes the ugf ineffective. if i were you, id just pull it out and replace it with eggcrate. jmho--others may like ugf's, but i think they are just a waste in african tanks..

if you want to control the amount of crap in your gravel, you could always pull that ugf and make under gravel jets out of pvc--ive made them for a tank, and they do work pretty well..
