Hey all im planning possible a new tank and im thinking of having a bowfin and northern pike. I know they get big and i plan on eventually moving them to a pond. For now though im thinking a large plywood tank.

Im from Wisconsin but currently live in Minnesota. Where can i get these guys?

Also they should coexist alright right? as long as they are the same size.

i don't know how bowfins behave ,but i know that northern pike can eat fish almost his size ,for example one of fishing newspapers wrote and article about keeping pikes with pikeperch ,the pike was 19 cm the pikeperch 16 cm and after 2 days of coexisting the pike ate the pike perch so i would be carefull with adding something slender to aipike

Bowfin i've been told are best kept by themselves, and will eat anything with them.

A bowfin on the same length would be a hell of a mouthfull for the pike. But I maybe be wrong. Any other opinnions?

thats what I said, I've kept them with other native fish smaller than them, and have had no problems. I would say you wouldn't have a problem, but just keep them well feed :)

well they are both carnivores, so i would have a large amount of fodd in the tank at all times so they wouldn't try to eat eachother, and i would also get them around the same size maybe the bowfin slighty larger
