Hey everyone, i was wondering if anyone has ever kept a northern pike? I went fishing this past weekend and caught a small pickeral, and it came in my mind wondering if anyone on here has ever kept a northern pike or just pickerel caught from the wild? If it is do able and is reasonably easy to care for, what size tank would i need for a pickeral, i know northerns get HUGE i have caught some lunkers, but if i did catch a small one i would think about raising it and re-releasing it to the wild(is this ilegal? its already a native fish hah) thank you all.

I can't say for the tank size, but you should NEVER re-release a fish to the wild, keep it for life or rehome it to someone with a large enough tank or private pond/lake. You should also check minimum catch and take sizes for your area, in Maryland there is a minimum size of 30in for northern pike.

Pike are pretty much out of the question, unless you have a pond or HUGE tank. There are a few people on here who do/have kept pickeral, and they seem like good options for a native tank. The only downside is that it's difficult to get them off of live food.

Check out the methods used to get gars off of live food, may work for the pickeral too. In the ancient fish section.
