Here is a red phase female being bred by a yellow phase male. Note the male clamping down on the female's nape? She was being receptive, but the male didn't take any chances, and decided to hold her down so as to try and prevent her escaping his advance. After a 5-month hibernation, where temps dipped into the low 40s, they woke up hungry for food and love.
