norway
Hi, ive bought some new pikes. But there is not much they know about this great fish in the stores here in norway.. its mostly guppys and goldfish :screwy: i bought 9 small ones last time i was at the store and from before i have 3 rather large xingu I's. the new ones is supposed to be punctata and reticulata, im not sure of this and im trying to find some pictures or something but im coming up blank.. :irked: not that i dont trust the guys at the store i just know they havent got a clue.. sad but true.. But i was wondreing, can i have two different type of pikes in the same tank?? will they cross-breed or something?? or will it be alot of fighting?? Here in norway we go metric so can anyone tell me how many liters a gallon is?? i have noticed that its mostly americans here so i hope you will understand my bad english.. :) and the pike only live here, they are not norwegian, at least so im told.. ;) im sorry for the crappy quality on the fotos.. will try to take som better ones, but hope someone can help me to id them.. will post some pictures of my xingus a bit later.. nothing much to dig up on pikes here in norway so im super glad i found this super site :D

Nice looking fish. I can tell you that the pike in the 2nd and 3rd picture are Crenicichla compressiceps. As for the other one, it is a type of saxatilis pike. My first guess would be Crenicichla anthurus. One thing any one who knows a little about pikes will tell you, is that saxatilis pikes are hard to identify.

Here is a good site to look at (its in english :irked: but I hope it helps)

thank you :) yes, compressiceps thats it.. super :nilly: And yEs verry verry glad i found this site, not much to dig up on these super-ciklids in norway sadly.. havent seen them much in stores either, bought my xingus in sweden :) so when i finally found some i had to buy what they had, its 3 compressiceps and 6 of the ones in the first picture.
The compressiceps doesnt get so big? like the xingus for example?? im sure i ask som stupid questions but its so great to finally have found somewhere to ask :)

It could be, the pic is kind of blury. But it looks like young Crenicichla anthurus to me. And I hear a lot of people buying pikes in Europe get C. anthurus. But we will see once they get bigger. Thats really the only way to know for sure. I don't think they are punctata though.

C. compressiceps do not get large. As a matter of fact they are one of the smallest Crenicichla. The biggest I seen was only 3 maybe 3.5".

I imagine, once the other pikes get bigger your C. compressiceps will be killed or eaten. You might want to start thinkin about seperate tanks.

You might be able to get away with keeping the other pikes together becuase you have 6. The aggression will be spread out instead of being put on one single fish.

Thanks alot for aswers and help, ill separate the 3 compressiceps (whoy i now have 3 tanks with different pikes, verry facinating fish :D ).. how much space gallons\litres is recomended for dwarf pikes like this?? and again im verry impressed by the local fish-store, they never mentioned it was a dwarf.. does someone know where i could find som pictures of anthurus??

great, spank u verry much :nilly: im pretty sure it is anthurus :) ill post some pictures later, they sure arnt easy to get good pictures of.. and they r relative small, only a couple of inches.. anything special too feed them with to speed up the growth?? im primarily feeding them bloodworms, is this right?? how would a good healthy diet contain?? the xingus eat everything but they are 5-7-8 inches so they r a bit bigger..
