Well i fed my gar today and as i took the cover off the tank to put the feeders in.
I walked away for about an hour or two and went down stairs to find my oldest and favorite gar on the floor barely alive. He was covered in hair from the rug since i do have a dog.

I tried to put him back in the tank with him sitting up right as if he were swimming and he started to breath. He is at the bottom of the tank now sitting up breathing deeply i just Hope the best for him. At this point i don't know what i can really do to help him out. Anyone have any other suggestions let me know please.

He was a little bloody i think it was from the fall or being on the ground for to long, He is not with anything else that could of spooked him. He actually is with two other gars an alligator gar who is a Juvie still and then another gar that's basically the same size.

I'm freaking out right now cause i have had this guy for almost three years now and has always been a great fish no problems what so ever until now.

is there in air bubbler in the tank, if not you should put one in.

I have two lines in and alot of water movement on the top of the tank from the Fluval fx5.

Hes almost up and swimming but i dont know if hes really back to normal yet

good luck man, i know an oscar doesnt compare to a gar but my favorite oscar jumped out of his tank and now he is growing and healthy as ever so no worries mate =] he should be fine. keep us posted.:D

i hope he makes it. Gars are a super tough fish. And do a lil better than most fish out of water. Good luck

thanks guys yeah hes getting there still Heavy breathing and just not moving on the bottom. I think he will make it just gonna give him the night and we will see in the morning. I guess i have to reinforce some of the tops cause he cracked it flying out of the tank. Thanks
Ill let you know by tomorrow how hes doing.

what you can do to help is kinda hold him next to the air stone or where you have the best aeration just keep doing this for a short period of times repeating it.

you should take this as a lesson learned and always close the top & every opening if u step away from the tank even a minute or a second.
