I came across a great deal on an Ocean Clear 375 Filter canister filter w/UV.

Looking for some extra mech filtering. Has anyone connected an ocean clear unit to the output of an FX5? Any issues? Does the pump on the FX5 have enough juice to run this OC canister?

Thoughts? Opinions?

I dont think its a good idea. I think it would put too much strain on the pump. My 2 OC filters have a mag 18 on them and I estimate that I only get about 900-1000gph through them.

Bite the bullet and buy a pump.
Trying to use the FX5 wil degrade both filters performance.

It's a cool idea though. I've been thinking about one of these or similar models for mech for a while. A separate pump is also going to ensure you'll have another filter running even if the FX5 fails for whatever reason (one time, my cat stepped on the switch of my power strip on one of my tanks! Now I wire things a little differently). :D

Thanks for the input, I was hoping to cut the electrical bill down by not having to add an extra pump... :naughty: looks like I'll have to rethink this.
