Wow, I think I can honestly say that I'll never go back to that pet store. I,ve been going to this place for a while. Service sucks, but hey, who cares as long as the product is good.

Today I was buying frozen feeders. Got two rats and two mice. Keep in mind I bought these from the owner of the store who picked them out and put them into a bag himself. I get home and thaw them out and the rats are fine, but the mice...

The first one died of an impaction, it had a mass of food the size of my thumb in its hindquarters and it was partially exposed (chewed up). Its entire back half was so freezer burned that I couldn't figure out where the outside ended and the inside began, and I regularly skin out and dissect mammals.

After just throwing out the first one I figured, well, at least I still have one mouse to use. Nope. This one looked like it had been stepped on and the fur was slipping on it because it was frozen as it had begun to spoil.

I honestly cannot believe the owner not only froze these to sell with the rest of his frozens, but also sold it to me. I've been going there off and on since I was six. Makes me want to just breed my own feeders again.

That sucks. I'd definitely let the owner know what happened. Give him a call asap. I don't know why the owner would want to ruin a good relationship with a daily customer. That's just bad for business right there.

yea lol

nasty feeders = dead pet :(

Those are bad feeders. If you use enough rodents buying online pays off.

"Service sucks, but hey, who cares as long as the product is good. "

In time one will catch up with the other and they will both go hand in hand .

I'd bring it up with him but I don't want to really bother honestly. And to think of all the times I paid more there instead of going to a chain like petco or petsmart down the road. The fella really isn't helping himself.

For feeders I find you're usually better off at the chains. They're getting them from some pro dealer (I have no idea who either of them use, but you get the idea) vs. freezing their own, which apparently this particular shop is doing, and not doing very carefully.

Yea, a few years ago I just bred my own, got to the point where I nearly made my own CO2 euthanasia chamber. Then I bought a years supply from rodent pro and since then I've been buying feeders again per feeding like a sucker. I think I'm going to set up a few tens and a twenty for rats.

Has anyone else had a similar experience buying feeders?

Buying from the chain pumps your money into the corporate executives... at least spending your money at the duffus' shop was most likely recycled in your local economy...

I recently spent $50 on 600 furless 10~16 Gram mice from American Rodent Supply...

It was a far better deal than I could get locally or from a chain... and put my money in the hands of a nice family instead of turning that corporate millionaire into a billionaire...
