Im setting up a new tank with monks scats puffers archers and so on they are currently in freshwater. Does anyone know if they would mix well with a african pike?
Yeah I could probably survive in brackish water for a while too. That doesn't mean I'm going to try it. Please do more research, just because something will survive for awhile does not mean they will thrive or live as long as they would under optimal conditions. Most of those fish will need full marine by maturity. Good luck and please do some more research.
Please only keep fresh with fresh, brackish with brackish, and marine with marine. Salinity is not like pH, where the fish will become accustomed to it as long as it's stable.
And from what I've heard, most people don't use protein skimmers with brackish.
I'm sure freshwater fish can survive in really light brackish tanks when acclimated slowly but monos and puffers need high end brackish and eventually need to go full marine in order to live long and healthy lives. It may seem cool at first to have all the fish you want in one tank but in the long run, it's not healthy for them nor is it responsible. My advice is to just set up a different brackish tank solely for brackish species instead of trying to mix and match.
And since we're on this topic, Koutekikankyousui anyone?
