Hi....the last few weeks the water in my tank has started to turn misty...its not cloudy enough to say cloudy! so misty it is..anyway..im not quite sure why this is happening..the tank is a 70G and i change 50L every week..i do clean the gravel every week with my syphoning tube..would this have caused it?(in that the tank is too clean!) i also add stress zyme and water conditioner(correct dosage)..is there anything i can do to get my water back crystal clear..asap!
thanks

50 liters is only 13 gallons, try doing bigger water changes every week, you said its a 70 gallon tank try doing a 25 gallon water change ever week.

Also, what kind of filters do you have, maybe they need to be cleaned out. remember to use the water from the Tank to rinse your filter media so you don't kill off the bb.
And what is your current stock.

How long has the tank been up and running?
What is in it?
Is it by any windows, or any direct sunlight at all?

thanks for the replies ...
i have a fluval 305 external running...7 frontosa 2-3inch...T5 Lighting..no direct sunlight.. I dont have any plants or anything..water parameters are all fine..the tank has been running for about 3 months..
I did clean the filters using tank water to see if there was any improvement..but this didnt do any good..its very weird. i cant understand it.

the only other thing i've done recenlty was to add tonic salt..would that be the problem?

Your tank cannot be "too clean" and cause cloudiness...

25~33% weekly water changes are the norm... you might try bumping them up... thoroughly cleaning gravel is important so keep that up...

Do yourself a favor and completely ignore the "up to XXX gallon aquarium" rating on any filter. A single Fluval 305 is insufficient filtration for a 70 gal Cichlid aquarium...

It is likely some sort of algae/bacteria bloom. They are a nuisance but are harmless...

thats great...i thought i was doing enough with the 50Litre change...i'll go for 25% from this week. thanks again..much appreciated.

i've been adding the recommended dose for your typical cichlid tank...1 teaspoon per 20L during water changes.
but i did add a large amount, about 1 cup full a few weeks back..i dont think it was over the top..around about the level for treating fungus. which worked out about 50 level tea spoons.

Had this happen as well..
A fully established 55g. No changes to routine cleanings or fish load. Just suddenly got a milky haze. Not real bad from the front, but looking "long ways", through the length of the tank, pretty bad.
Tried ever finer filter media, many water changes..all for naught.
The only thing that cleared my tank was a UV unit. Ran it for 24 hrs. and the tank was crystal clear. Odd thing is, I took the UV out of the tanks filtration system(sump)and the water has stayed crystal for over a year now.
Have not a clue as to the cause of the cloudiness, just glad it`s gone, and real happy to have the UV on hand should it happen again.
