Hi Everyone,
I have been keeping fish, mostly cichlids since 1973, and trying to photograph them since the late 70's.
I started with a Russian made Zenit SLR, since then I have only used Pentax cameras starting with the MEF then the MZ5n and just recently the istDs.
I am enjoying the digital camera as I seem to have fewer bad shots and like the way you can adjust the photo in photoshop instead of relying on the local mini-lab.
This is my first visit to this site and I have liked what I have seen.
I will look forward to many more visits.

Cheers,
John.

John, welcome. ZENIT???? Seriously? where did you even get one? I remember that brand name from my childhood, in Russia, did not think it was ever available anywhere else.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for warm welcome.
I will try to get a few of my photos up for you to look at.
Squidfish, I came across some of your shots on the ACE Forums in Sydney, which lead me here of course, I love the shots of the esterae male.
Paradise, yes it was a Zenit can't remember the model, a guy I worked with at the time had one and he thought it was magic, I wasn't so taken with the one I bought, I think they made them out of melted down Russian tanks, they were so heavy.:-D

Could someone walk me through posting a pic, it doesn't seem to be working the same way it does on our forum. I am obviously doing something wrong:confused:

Cheers,
John.

Welcome to APF John. Please don't be a stranger around here and post some of your work if you like :)
I took the liberty of fixing your image, click on edit for your post to see how it should look like. Impressive teeth :-o

Welcome to APF, John. These pictures look good so far, especially that second one. The first one looks like it needs to be stopped down just a tad more. The focus seems to be right on his mouth and would be better if his eye was in focus.

Welcome to APF John. I started out with a Zenit B in the early '70s. I was a student and it was the cheapest SLR I could buy. I think it was almost £30! It had no light meter, a plain groundglass screen for manual focussing and a manual aperture (you had to focus the lens at full aperture and then turn a ring to stop the lens down to the setting you had chosen). It seems like the Stone Age now - but it taught me a lot about taking photos.
Nice close-ups BTW, I really like the Oscar.
