i have 4 jerdoni and only one them has these spots on the tail. it looks like a pimple but not even close.. seems like a bump with redish on the side. the fish eats well, not skinny at all. very active... but i want it gone before i join all of them to my big tank. just a precaution... i don't want my large tank to get any disease due to my ignorance. please help identify what type of disease it is... and any suggestion on what medication to use.. they are in a community tank with loaches.

Looks like a parasite. What species of fish is that?

Interesting. I've got a Hypsibarbus wetmorei "lemon finned barb" with something very similar on it's tail. I've only just recently noticed it but will try to get a pic tomorrow.

well, it seems like it is a parasite... :( i'll treat it with either parasite clear or something else. ;)

can you post your wetmorei? :)

Here are the pics of the lump on my wetmorei

The fine red lines surrounding it look like blood vessels. It's possibly coming to a head that looks like it might burst. I'm wondering if it developed from bruising to the tail.

If these are wild caught or pond raised fish then those could be encapsulated flatworm larvae. Parasite clear would be a good choice but contact the maker about the safety of using with loaches.

Speaking for myself, I've had these fish for 5 years and this is the first time I've seen this on them. They've recently (3 months) been joined by some wild caught motoro which are healthy, growing, and eating well - no obvious signs of parasites.

Would it be best/safe to treat the tank as a precaution? I don't want to upset things because everything else seems to be going well at the moment.
