Gday everyone i am new to this site. i came across it on the web and it looks great. i know a decent amount about fish keeping, and i work in a fish store, but i am having trouble determining what kind of fish i have. i am leaning towards the possiblily of it being a red devil, but i cant be sure. anybody got any suggestions? he seems to be changing colour. the pictures where he has no yellow on him are older, and the newest one shows blotches of yellow coming through.

Most likely a red devil, or a midas, or a mix of the two... I think it's unusual for them to change color this late in life (He looks older) but he does look awesome in the last photo.

I didn't think "barred" Midas turned... Wouldn't that make it a regular Midas?

Doesn't really matter - they're still the same fish. citrinellum.

Red Devil, look at those thick lips:hearts:

No, the devil is the one with the thick lips. As I've said before, these two fish are so closely related (midas/devil), and so often mis-identified, that we've ended up with many hybrids of the two. The fish in this thread seems to be a hybrid as well.

Isn't it the other way around, Midas have the thick lips?

i ussally see wild caught rd's with thivk lips rather than midas's
