I just scored a free 55gallon tank off craiglist. Must be an older tank because it was quite heavy for a 55 and the glass is super thick but there is no center brace. Silicone seems to be in good shape just concerned about no center brace. Your opinions?

Ok..gonna fill it tonight and do a leak test. Im gonna let it sit filled for a few days. Whats wierd is where the center brace wouldve been, theres 2 holes that looks like they were made for some type of hooks. Doesnt look DIY.

Center brace is not needed since they used thicker, but you should install one if you plan to use glass covers

looks like it had a center brace in the form of some sort of rod. how thick is the glass.

Not sure it's still in my truck I haven't bought it inside yet but I'd guesstimate about half inch due to weight.

Looks to be standard for 100-200g tanks. 3/8-1/2 judging by the picture.

I agree though that it looks like it had a center brace at one point. Can always do a DIY center brace for really cheap. With the holes on the rim it'd be perfect to do a mega-center brace. 2 pieces of plexiglass drilled JB welded with a nut and bolt.

My 125 is a 1995 tank with surprisingly few scratches for being nearly 20 years old. It has 1 center brace on a 6ft long tank. Not easy to find glass tops for it either.
