Will piranhas eat convicts happily as a main food source? I plan on raising them myself, anyway.

Also.
If I put 2 convicts in the piranha tank whilst the piranhas aren't there and let them breed, can I take them out after and let the eggs hatch and let the piranhas feast once they get big enough to be seen as a meal?Or will they eat the tiny fry?

if you want to breed convicts as the main food source then you better setup multiple tanks as grow out tanks for the fry to get to usable size to keep up with the demand. it'll probably take months before the first batch is ready depends on your piranha size.

Yea I already have the tanks+ Fry (2-3week old)

I have 4 red bellied piranhas(natteri) that are 4 inches long roughly.

About how long will it take for the convicts to reach suitable sizes for my piranhas?

Also, can you answer the second question too, if it's not to much of a hassle.

Thanks.

I would say at least an inch or two but your piranhas are still small so they may also eat smaller ones. you can keep them all together and let the piranhas to pick them off slowly but i would still feed them shrimp or fish fillet cuz they may not always manage to catch them.
as for question #2, where will you keep the piranhas when the breeding pair is in the p tank? it's more stress to the fish if you take them in and out all of the time. just keep them in separate tank and once they breed let the eggs hatched and let the parents care for them for couple weeks until they can swim and look for food on their own then move them to your piranha tank.

i don't have a problem with people using feeders (i've breed convicts myself) but i would not recommend that being your piranha's main food source since there's alot of cheaper choices out there.

have you read the piranha nutrition thread?

Yeah i spent $5 on a bag of shrimp and its lasted 2months vs. all the money i put into feeding the convict parents, then the hundreds of fry and they take forever to grow out.

heres the tough thing with cons. they start as feeders, but end up surviving and being a pest in the tank. they are quick and smart and theyre will always be some that survive
