Nouchal hump grows in just one week?

It seems my Petsmart Midevil's hump has grown a bit in just a week. Here he is now.

I've experienced a nuchal hump in a juvenile flowerhorn double in size in three days. I'd say what's happened to your fish is not hugely abnormal. Looks like it will have a fair old hump once mature though !

He eats Hikari Bio gold, FD krill, FD bloodworms, and Massivore.

He is sitting at about 2". He's tiny, but a BEAST.
 
ISOLATE HIM!!!! Put in a 20L gallon, with a powerhead a few plastic plants, a couple ping pong balls floating on time, mess with him with a mirror from time to time, MAKE him LOSE all fear of you, your hand, and objects in your hand, get him glass banging and biting your hands. Turn the water temp. up to 82-86F. keep him here until he hits like 7in. and is a complete ASS with a HUGE hump.

When I put my Amphilophus Amarillo in a 75 cause he was a bully (he was in 190 gallon) his hump was a lot smaller after 1 day. When I put him back in the 190 his hump got huge again. So I don't think a small tank is going to help them get a hump, and mine was glass banging and kept in those temperatures.

To the op: very nice fish you got there, I wouldn't bully him and stuff like that. Just grow him into a monster, he'll have a huge hump in no-time.
 
ohmygod that's a great looking Midas.

Rare to see a Midas so young with a big thick head like that. They only come that big on FHs.

could be the best Midas ever caught at Petsmart. Or best Midas I've ever seen at this size. I'd keep him 4ever.

And about the head growing. Yeah it is very possible. Some have it in them but wont blow up unless they feel good and safe. Shows youre doing a good job. And it takes about a week+ to go from deflated to full blown puff
