My oscar has HITH. I have done every type of treatment to cure it but it will not go away. Now it has fungus growing out of one of its' hole. I treated it once already but now it has come back in a different hole. What can I do?

If you've treated it several times with medication and the Oscar still isn't cured, the cause of the problem must still be present in the tank. What size is the Oscar and the tank? How often are you changing the water? What are you feeding it?

Well, I doubt if anyone can blame it on insufficient water changes! That's a lot of WC. It's a good thing though. I don't know. It sounds like you're doing all the right things. Hopefully one of the Oscar keepers will chime in on this one. From previous threads, I have read that salt in a quarantine tank usually helps.

I bought every piece of HITH lore I could find and ran with it. No carbon in the filtration, no stray electrical current, no bad food (like Hikari Cichlid Gold Corn Flakes, but you feed him other stuff, too, so...), stable pH, nitrAtes below 20ppm, low stress, lots of insects in the diet, etc, and he still got a hole one day!!!

What worked was a single dose of metronidazole followed by adding a vitamin and mineral pyramid to the filter box. And it hasn't come back since.

What are your water params? Imo 50g every 2 days is a bit much. I would also cut out the silver sides, and limit the kill to twice weekly. Try to add some greens in his diet. Find some pellets with Spirulina, nls and omega one are 2 good ones. If he'll eat romain lettuce that's great also.

I am not sure.... water is perfect. Everything is to the min except for Nitrates.... It about 5- 10 ppm and ph is always around 7. Maybe I will try one of those vit pyramids and ground my tank even though every piece of equip is brand new and quality gear.
