From Kydd Pollock in the New Zealand Fishing News comes this photo of a scalloped hammerhead, or what's left of it. This fish was on the line for 45 minutes, goes the story, when an even larger tiger shark showed and cut the hammerhead cleanly behind the head. Charter captain James Trimble forwarded the San Luis Pass version of the same story several years ago, a photo of a 50-pound blacktip sliced in a single bite, roughly in the same spot, by a shark he and his clients never saw while fishing about a mile off the pass. That's why saltwater fish always seem to be in such a hurry. If they don't eat, there's a good chance they'll be eaten

i've been dieing to shark fish for years, for big guns. i'll do it one day, for like 10 days
