i just can’t win.. first my lungfish and now this mystery bump on my new ornate bichirs head. Is their any known parasites or diseases that cause this or could it be an injury and if so does it look fatal? Idk what happened to the poor thing. Me and my fish are having a streak of bad luck it seams..

I can’t really tell from the pictures but it almost looks like an injury. Does it affect the way he eats or just general movements involving him opening and closing his mouth?

He was eating a bit of blood worms a bit ago. He swims but idk if it’s normal for him. I’ve only had him like 2 days

It’s like a big red bump. Nothing in the tank could’ve really done it besides the chalceus which is always at the top and even then it’s mouth seems way to small and it’s way out of character for her. Idk what could’ve happened. Maybe he got wedges under the big peice of wood in the tank. But could that of caused the damage? Maybe from frantic struggling? I hope that’s the case

Looks like it rubbed on something or maybe rubbed against the spines of that eclipse catfish.

Would just separate the fish if able. Get better pics. Keep the water super clean. Add a 1 tsp per gallon of salt. Should keep an eye on it. Make sure it’s still active and swimming. Reduce stress.

Ok I can do that. What kind of salt and will it hurt the other fish?

I will get better pics when able

Aquarium or any non iodized salt. Pickling salt is another good option. Shouldn’t bother the other fish.
