hi, i just picked up 4 NTT @ 2" and an IT the same size.

the NTT were housed in a freshwater tank but the IT was in a brackish setup, they are all now in a freshwater tank but will the IT suffer for this? i checked the species care profile but it doesnt mention anything about this??? have i just made a huge error, its just i see plenty of tanks with dats and rays, arows etc which are all FW not brackish?

also what sort of decor should i have? they are currently in a 2.5ft tank with a few plants and bogwood - ive noticed they hide under the two filters i have - i knw this is normal but is there anything i can do to see them more? ive noticed some people keep them in bare tanks but is it better to provide them with more plants to feel safe in?

what sort of water flow do they prefer?

any pointers on keeping these juvies happy is greatly appreciated thanks!

IT and NTT will not suffer from being kept in a FW tank, both species live in freshwater rivers naturally. AT and NGT are the only datnoid that also live in brackish, and most keepers of this fish keep them in fresh with no ill effects. The only problem is that if you just dropped them in a fresh tank from brakish water without acclimation it could hurt the fish.

Decor wise, you can give them hiding spaces or you can keep bare... I keep datnoids in a bare tank and some are active others hide against the back or in corners. One thing that seems to increase activity is adding more fish... especially more datnoids. They seem to be less afraid when there more fish out.

i did acclimatise him for over an hour - as for more dats i totally agree i need more! only problem is round these neck of the woods hardly any lfs stock them. i often ask if they come up on the suppliers lists but the usual answer is NO! i get the impression most fish stores employ people who know NOTHING about fish, or what they do know only covers gouramis, tetras and mollies! when you say the words microlepsis, NTT, IT etc they give you a dumb look as if you've asked to crap in one of their fish tanks!

I would treat the NTT's for gill flukes before its too late.

thanks bomber ill do that - which medication should i use? i have some melafix - will the meds be okay with my two motoro pups?
