I bought a 5" Ntt and introduced it to my 125g on Friday, and he hasn't moved from the corner of the tank since then. He's just hovering in place behind a rock pile, is this normal? and what can I do to help him adjust?

Dat's in general can be shy, especially when freshly introduced into a tank. How'd he look in the LFS or did you get him via shipping? I'd look more into his gill movement and eye condition if I was worried about disease. Give him/her a once over and see if you notice any visible signs of stress or disease, if you don't see any just give him some more time to settle in.

yeah solid advice. Thru my limited experience with dats I hate noticed that if you give them cover they will take advantage of it. My ntt hides behind a log untill he is hungry enough to come out. Or the aro gets too close.

I ordered him, he's visually ok but he does look stressed color wise, and he hasn't eaten anything yet.

Idk I guess I'm just comparing comparing him to my indo who was very out going and never hid.

Thanx and your definitely correct most Dat's will hide when given the opportunity. Those that don't are usually the exception to the rule.

Dat color stability is a hit or miss thing. Some people have Dat's for years that are stable and suddenly go unstable for no apparent reason. I never use that as a guide for determining their health. Gill's and eyes are my primary thing at determining health with Dat's beyond the obvious visual inspection. Especially eyes for some reason Dat's suffer from getting cloudy eyes easily and to me is usually the first indication something is wrong. That is assuming that the Dat isn't already blind then the cloudy eyes are totally useless at determining illness. Just to let you know a outgoing Dat isn't that common though I wouldn't call it rare either, though you probably lucked out with your first. Eating too can be a problem until they get settled. If his belly really looks sunken and your worried as a last resource I'd try live food. Though as I said it'd be the last thing I'd try, because then you may have to break them off live again which can be a Uber pain in the tuch-uss.

My 8" ntt was the same way 2 weeks ago when I got him, he would just hide by the filter intake stem. Give him some time to get used to the tank. It also helps to see what tank mate you have in there as well. Mine was bullied by my 15" hbrtg who was curious as to what he thought was food. Needless to say my tiger has a couple of bite marks from my dragon. He holding his own quite fine just as long as he spikes up and doesn't bolt away, if not the chase begins arh!!!

2 weeks later he's out and about and I even seen him swim to the top of the tank to steal hikari fish sticks from the aro as I ran out of sinking massivore pellets.

I also noticed that my tiger is slightly more curious when the lights are dimmed.
