Hi I was interested getting around a 7inch NTT Dat and I was wondering what their compatibility is with Tiger Scats. I have a group of 6 Tiger Scats from a local shop. They are fairly small, a little over ~ 2inch + (they are tall bodied). I was told that they are a fish that is ignored by Datnoids by a local hobbyist. I am pretty skeptical knowing if a predatory pescavore has the opportunity for a snack it will take it...however, my friend was stating since they are barred and resemble Dats that they are completely ignored. Any thoughts?

Interesting! I can’t wait to find out! I’ve had 12”+ dats with 3” dats and no problems, so......
Well it would be an expensive experiment if it fails horribly. The scat venom probably wouldnt' be too good on the Dat as well if it saw the scat as a snack. Just wanted to probe if there is merit to what my friend is saying before trying it lol. I know Dats seem to leave smaller Dats alone...but didn't know if it rang true for tiger scats (which look similar).

NTT ~7inch completely leaves them alone. He/she leaves both the 6 x 2 inch Scats and the 4 x 3+ inch Scats alone. One of the larger scats is fairly boisterous and dominant though hoping he doesn't get too nippy toward the Dat. The NTT is eating large NLS insectum too which is kind of nice. The tiger scats are really cool hope I can keep at least 6 adults in the 180.

My scat bullies my datnoids... 7" scat.. 10-11" datnoids.. scats tend to attack/bully other similar sized fish.. I'm guessing it picks on the datnoids because of their shape and similar vertical bars.

Yep, found out pretty quick that the Scat armada was annoying the NTT, he's much happier now that they were replaced by a Polypterus Palmas, Polypterus Mokelembe, and a Polypterus Weeksii. Interesting fish, but not really a good fit with the NTT. Any suggetion on a mid water column fish to add in a 6' x 2" footplrint that would go well with the NTT and Polys? I was thinking about a larger gourami, but open to suggestions.

I think any larger species barbs/carps, mahseer would do well, Flagtails, etc..
Ended up getting a Chalceus Macrolepidotus...seems to be 7-8 inches. Still will keep my eyes open for something else.
