Sorry for random thread, but is there anything the aquarist can do to stimulate a nuchal growth in Midas? I know in the wild it is triggered by spawning behavior and hormones, but in captivity they seem to grow regardless. Is there anything besides water quality and diet that you can do to get the full potential out of a nuchal hump?

Nuchal hump all comes down to genetics. If you fish has the genes for it there are some things you can do to maximize its potential such as good food and clean water. It can also be improved by making it feel more dominant by giving it mirror time.

Ive had a pair of midas a little over 2 week. I received them 1-18 and it took a day or two before they began to feed. Since they are on the other side of the divider from a flowerhorn I put them on the same diet. Grand sumo. There are people who say its not good for them, and I dont know a lot about fish nutrition to know any different. That said they visually look way better hands down. Hump and color wise. You tell me if you can tell
