So as noted in one of my other posts, my nanolutea have spawned, with their few month old fry still in the tank. My first concern was the first batch getting killed by the parents. This was not the case, the pair doesn't even defend the nest from the juvies. My second concern was the first batch eating their younger siblings or the eggs. This also, surprisingly, was not the case.
The pair came up to the glass to defend their nest against >me<, and I noticed a juvie in the back by the nest up by the eggs. I was concerned, I thought it would start eating them or something, but no. The little thing was fanning the eggs to the best of its tiny body's ability while its parents tried to fend me off.
I know it's not unheard of for pairs of CA cichlids to spawn with their fry still in the tank, but the fry taking care of their siblings too? Should I be studying and recording my findings of this behavior?
