I was looking at various inverts and began wondering about the specific care and difficulty level of keeping nudibranches, specifically the blue velvet kind. I think they're beautiful but I'm reading conflicting info at various sites that sell them so I wanted to see if anyone here has any?

well alot of nudibranches have specialized diets, part of the reason i never got into them, if they say they only eat flatworms i would believe them.

sorry i cant be of more help

Yeah, that's the thing that was making me hold off as well. Flatworms are parasites, right? So it's not something I'd want to introduce into the tank just to keep them fed?
well i assume there are various kinds. i know there bad for corals. i dont think they harm fish, but they release toxins when they die.

i dont know very much about them

the only nudibranchs or sea slugs that dont have an extremely specific diet and can be mainteined for a long time somewhat easily in an aquarium are the sea hares and lettuce slugs. almost all others have very specific diets, and often only eat one type of organism, sometimes only one species.

I do not think these have much longevity in captivity. Most have very specialized diets--many nudis only eat sponges.

Nudibranches aren't worth the effort especially the blue velvet we did a project breeding them and you need a constant I mean a good amount of flatworms most other nudibranches are as delicate in feeding as well but they are very beautiful I think they should just remain in the ocean where the feeding needs can be meet until we further advance techniques in the hobby to keep them successfully.

Damn. I wish there were a way, it's a really unique creature.

Those blue and white flatworms I posted a link to seem pretty neat -- would they serve any beneficial purpose to a FOWLR tank or would they be detrimental? How quickly do they get out of hand in terms of multiplying? I don't even know where I'd get them but my favorite LFS is pretty awesome about tracking down weird/rare things, so I could probably see what they could find out.
