how many gsp will live, and not eat each other, in a 55g tank?

i do have several other fish, an archer, 2 bonitas, 2 sharks/catfish type of fish, 1 pleco and 2 chilids (little ones).

It's more a matter of them picking on everyone else really.

I believe this is more a question for PufferPunk.

I personally would say 3, but I'm not a huge knower of the puffies.

1 would be happiest aline in there. 2 is pushing it, since the MINIMUM recomended tank size is 30g ea.

As far as your other fish, your tankis already fully stocked, IMO & many of your fish are not BW & will appreciate no salt at all. You really should find out what fish you are leeping, like the "shark/catfish type of fish", so you know what water conditions they prefer.
