From the few senegals I've kept before, I've noticed that the senegal with more finlets tend to be longer in size. I kept 3 of the same batch, 2 with 8 finlets and 1 with 9 finlets and it turned out that the one with 9 finlets turned out longer than both of them despite being smaller in size than the other 2(fatter and bigger looking). Does this prove that the number of finlets that a species of bichir has determines its potential length and size?

Gender, genetics and WC or CB tells the potential size. It not usually on how many the finlets are exceot when it's a short body which have 6-7 finlets and super short which have even lesser finlets. I have a 8 finlet sene that is bigger than my other bichirs which have 9 finlets. Sene normally have 8-11 finlets and average are 9.

What I meant was it's potential to grow. Try raising a batch of bichirs with different number of finlets and see what I mean.

Did that done that same result. Any sene that have 8-11 finlets have a potential to grow an average size of 10-12 inches. 7 finlets then expect them to grow smaller as they are shortbody. It's actually the length of the body and not the count of finlets. Genetics, foods, tank size and regular water change plays an important part of bichirs growth. Try putting a 11 finlet in a 10g tank for the rest of it's like and expect it to grow to 12"+, nope it's not gonna happen. More likely it will get stunted. As I said I have a sene with 8 finlets and it grew bigger than my other 9 finlets sene.

You need to grow out way more than 3 bichirs to see any correlation between finlet number and length.

For instance if you flip a coin three times and get heads each time it is not safe to assume that you will get heads 100% of the time.
