Im thinking of having a 500 gallon aquarium and if it had only 5 fish in it could it be cycled only once each hour? The fish with start off small but get bigger so then it could be updated later

What fish and how small? Small fish diluted by 500 gallons would be fine with one turn over an hour. Anything else and you would have floaters on your hands. Minimum 4 turn over/hour in most cases. Heavy stocking requires much more

I guess an AClear 110 (or equivalent) would cycle a 500 gallon tank one time per hour.
Even so, I like to have two filters in case one quits - so two AC70s now or take a chance on one AC110, or just put on two AC110s now and you won't have to upgrade (add on) for a bit.

What is your stocking going to be? I find this an odd question considering the cost of a 500g tank itself. Drill and build/buy a sump, then all you have to do is uprade pumps when you want to up your flow.

Yep, you guessed it. I have a pond that’s filled but has a little stream feeding it but the stream is dry so I’m waiting for it to start flowing again. Plus I’m not sure if I want to release tiny expensive fish into it to be eaten by something bigger
