I was thinking about the same thing, too. Then I look back at those frozen food ... for example Hikari frozen krill quote from manufacture:
"
Hika** krill is an ideal dietary supplement for larger freshwater or marine fish. Also an excellent color enhancing diet. Three-step sterilization ensures unequalled product quality - no harmful bacteria, parasites, or foul odors. Fortified with multi-vitamins. Packed in pure water and available in convenient "no touch" cube packs or flat packs. "

SEE.... without that extra mineral and vitamin... just nature krill or shrimp from the market is going to stunt your fish. Exoskeleton is NOT source of calcium. They are keratin.. protein product.

Just my thought.... no intention to change anything here.

The only animal that exclusively eat shrill or shrimp that I can think of is blue whale.... those marine animals have extreme efficient kidneys that they can filter hypertonic salt water... meaning they can drink salt water and still able to filter out extra salt in their urine....... we human can't.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seawater

check out salt water mineral content.... calcium and phosphorus are in there

Vitamin drink for those animals..

i meant for example,
geophagus?
say for example they dont eat any vertebrates at all,
how do they obtain the calcium to grow?

oh,and does this mean i have to increase calcium intake for my fish by feeding more feeders?

good point u guys bringin up here ._. so anythin w/o any added vitamin or any natural food , like tilapia fillet or even freeze dried shrimp/ krill are not enuf???? which means i'll have to get every fish on pellets SOON x____x

This thread is focused largely on calcium content by shrimps/krills more than cichlas hence the move.

... Do you eat the shrimp shell? The nutrition facts there reflect the nutrition content of the shrimp as a human would eat it. Feed with shell on for calcium... (Pinch off the tail barb though, those can mess up your fish.)
