Well.... NYC just went over 100 yesterday.... I was not home. Just lost 3 of my fish. two my favorites. my 7 inch pim ornatus and my 8 inch NTT datnoid. Really sad about the datnoid... SHOOT!!! I SHOULD HAVE PUT ICE IN THE SUMP!! tank temperature went up to 90-95 I think. Instead of thinking about my fish I was hanging out all night. arrggghhhh!!

Hello; I have kept tanks in non air conditioned places for decades. Over time I have found it simpler to keep species that can tolerate warmer temperatures. It is also some advantage to understock a tank for a cushion during times of stress such as high temps and power outages. I also tend to run some extra bubblers in the warm weather as it may be low dissolved O2 in warm water that is the problem.

It's been over 100 for the past week here and I didn't have any losses, though I did unplug my heaters just to make sure they wouldn't accidentally kick on. My tank has been averaging 88+ but luckily my inhabitants can handle it.

I doubt the NTT died from the temp directly. I would say more likely, lack of oxygen due to increased temp. NTT datnoids are hardy and can tolerate high water temps into mid 90's for extended periods without issue as long as they have good oxygenation of the water.

I've never lost a fish due to heat...I keep my aquariums away from exterior walls and windows. I don't let it get over 80 degrees or so and my aquariums were always fine.

my tank temperature has been over 90F, and my cichlids never had a problem with it.
