Hi,

Anybody here using nylon fishingnet as bio media?
i have a 55 gallon drum filter and currently planning to fill it up with nylon fishnet. any experience on this? since nylon scrubbies have lots of surface area for bacteria, will nylon fishnet work the same?

thanks.

you could deffinately use it...not sure on its surface area, of it would even have more then scrubbies, but there is no reason you can't use it.

I use it a lot as there are prawn fishermen who throw away mountains of the stuff each repair. Light yet easy to remove for cleaning. You can choose spacing simply by pressing down.

My tank is a 300 gal tank.
problem is , its quite stocked.
inhabitants are
2 12 inch asian aro, 1 20 inch asian aro, 1 20 inch silvver aro and 10 red 5-6 inch hooks
current filtration is a 4 ft overhead filter box with ceramic rings, bio balls and sponge.
15 gal sump tank filled with foams, ceramic rings and bio balls.
eheim 2250 with ceramic rings and foam, and some rio 1700 internal powerheads.

last night i had an ammonia problem 1mg /l
the tank has been up for more than a year. but i must have overfed them the other day.

I use the heavy duty trawler-fish nets, not clear monofilament netting. Its a dark blue colour and about 2mm thick twisted nylon thread. It is definitey the right price.... free and they actually gave me some freshly caught seafood once since I was saving them the trouble of going to the dump.

Use your drum as a trickle filter not fully submerged for optimum bio-filtration.
