Nylon mesh?

I am planning on using some of this nylon mesh cut to size and stacked in layers in my sump for filtration. Is it a good idea?

Depends on the size of the mesh openings. They can clog pretty quickly.

Would stacking multiple layers of this material clog up quickly?

I use a single layer of standard window screen - not the fine, but I think the holes are a bit smaller than your pic - over the overflow openings and I need to rinse it out every 5-9 days. I could let it go longer but it raises the water lever in the tank making the overflow noisy.
