ok so I have an OB Peacock cichlid that is not eating. It has been about 3 days since I saw him eat. I was able to trap him and get him out of the DT but now he is in a 20 gallon with another peacock and a Texas cichlid. He is the middle size one in the QT tank now at about 3 inches long. It has been about 6_7 hours in the QT tank and he still won't eat. I was hopeing it was because of Aggression from the all their fish in the tank And when I put him in the QT tank he would start to eat.but no. He is showing no signs of Disease that I can tell, his fins are open no white spots, he is swimming just fine not just sitting on the bottom. Not bloted I have included some pictures hopeing someone can help. Should I just treat

hopefully gets better can't help only advice is do loads of water changes lol never kept African cichlids but would like to lol

The fish doesn't look thin to me but does have some fin damage so maybe some aggression from the DT.

Have you noticed any feces at all prior to not eating?

There's over a 100 fish in the display tank I'm sure there was some aggression. But there is a lot of room to run too Thats why I hoped he would Start to eat after I took him out of the dt. As far as the feces I don't know.

Would it help to dose some Formaldehyde Methanol , Malachite Green Chloride ? Could it hurt anything?

I don't recommend medicating if you don't know what to treat for.

Fish don't need to eat every single day unless they are fry so unless you are seeing obvious signs of disease, I would just monitor it.

Yes they dont need to eat everyday, but I have never has a cichlid that dose not acked like they are starting when you go by the tank. And this is going on the 4th day that i have noticed him not eating. I hope your right but I think something is wrong.

Is there a small bit of swelling in the abdomen?

Not unusual for peacocks to not eat when stressed by aggression. New to the tank and needing time to settle in may also be a factor. Is the tank a 20 long? Would be better for those fish if it is and I'd also provide some structure or hiding spots in the tank. I don't know what options you have but another peacock and a Texas cichlid may not be the best or most relaxing tankmates for a stressed peacock. I wouldn't jump right into meds, either, if it was me, and if I did want to medicate those wouldn't be my choices. The one thing I might do at this point is add a little Epsom salts as a laxative/digestive relaxant, especially if there's any swelling in the abdomen.

That said, everyone has their opinions on treatment, but imo I agree with deeda that I wouldn't treat a stressed fish with strong meds without more to go on than just trying to get it to eat. Could do more harm than good imo, unless they're really needed for an evident infection or parasites. Just my opinion.

It dose not look swollen to me. And it is just a regular 20 but that is just a qt tank. He was in the 600 gallon DT. I have another qt up but I can not put him or the other peacock in there because I have small fish in the 40 gallon that he will eat them. But I have not seen one fight or chase in the 20 gallon. The salt idea is good i am going to do that now....

Thanks,
Trevor
