Hi all!
earlier this year, I acquired a one of my dream species of catfish; the Obbes Eel Tailed Catfish Porochilus obbesi.
(Just a warning this thread may be picture heavy. I didn’t get many pictures when they first arrived be
These catfish are Australia’s smallest catfish reaching to about 15cm max.
They are part of the Eel tailed catfish family, which includes Tandanus and Black Eel tail catfish. (my personal fav of the group)
These little guys are found towards the very top of Australia and southern New Guinea.
I got six of them from Dave Wilson at Aquagreen.com
I set up a 120L quarantine tank on my Tub rack. I filled the tub with PVC hides and rocks with java fern
I
About a month after i got them feeding on frozen bloodworms and live baby brine-shrimp i added a takeaway container filled with gravel to see if i could get any potential nests forming. After about 2 months of waiting i got a tiny little hole made in gravel. No eggs, one decided it would be a fun place to sleep
.
I believe i have an even ratio of about 3 males & 3 females.
Sadly, one of the catfish got a tumor/cancer and is soon to be euthanised.
I have arranged to get a 4ft tank for these little guys next year.
More posts will be made later.
