is polypterus an obligate piscavore?i have been feeding an ornate and endli (7") and find them not interested with pellets:(, eat some bloodworm:confused: but really interested in small feeders:drool:. should i starve them and give them pellets food afterwards?how long should i fast them then?tq

Mine have eaten nothing but pellets for the last 6 years lol. They'll eat it eventually...

Mine all feed on a variety of sticks, pellets, and wafers. I also offer them cut thawed raw shrimp, clam/mussel meats, thawed gut-loaded crayfish, and thawed catfish fillet pieces. All of my poly species (top and bottom jawed) have been on non-live diets from the beginning. I've always been concerned about the endli curse. Taking my polys off of live (so far) has resulted in no endli losses of my group of 10. And, I figure my other poly species wouldn't suffer from the lack of live feedings.

Endli curse what's that? That you can't feed Endli's live or something cause Parvo eats frozen bloodworms

There is a coincidental occurrence of wild-caught endlis crashing within a couple of months in captivity. The reason isn't known. I've switched my poly tanks off of any live native introductions on the premise that a pathogen may be getting inadvertently introduced from US waters. So far, no failures on this method. I have endlis in my tanks from 6 months to 5 years without so much as a single outbreak of bloat or any other infestation/infection. (knocks on wood).

how long to starve them?i know it will be hard especially to albino senegal with 'innocent hungry eyes'.damn.....

All of my polypterus eat a variety of foods. I feed pellets, market shrimp, and chopped tilapia.
