I'm looking at the Ocean Clear model 354 Bead Filter for a 120 or maybe a 180 tank. I will be housing discus in the tank.

Does anyone have any experience with this filter? Good idea? Bad idea? I like the idea of a quick backflush to deal with the mechanical cleaning.

What kind of pump am I going to need for this? I've been looking at the maxijet nj5500 but I have no idea if it actually has the oomph for this filter. I like the pricing on the pump and the wattage on it but if it's inadequate I'd rather know ahead of time.

Thanks.

i had used these canister fefore and i do like them, but you have to get other canister in front like a 325 with the microm other wise you're bio will clog for the pump i used a pressure pump pan world 50px and 100px also tried ps3 very silence pump the microm last for years have a spere one for maintanance my set up was 220 gallon with 28 discus also i was running an eheim 2250 but the real difference was the ocean clears

I have also had ocean clear filters and they do an amazing job!!
I had two...one micron and one bioball/carbon...this was years ago...
I had a Little Giant pump...I think 1/8 or less horse power for a 300gal. tank...worked great!!!!!
Now a days the selection of the media is better....but remember the micron first and not too tight.....

That it was used on such a large tank with that many discus is encouraging. It sounds as though you're both using something else now? If so, what do you use now and could you let me know why you went with that instead?
