does anyone have any experience with their canister filters?

i was thinking of adding one for mechaniacl filtration thay seem to have a large surface area

They are much nicer than XP2,3 etc, Cascade Canister Filters, and the Fluval FX5. You must supply the pump yourself so you get to decide what kind of flow you require. I have a mag drive 14 powering mine and I have the model 340 or 350. First canister is filled with very porous sponge material and the second canister is filled with polybead. It has a better flow rate and much higher bio capacity than my FX5. In my opinion they make XP3's and all those caliber filters look like a joke. I will soon be purchasing a big eheim canister so we will see how it compares to that.

how about the quality leaks exc. does the polybead filter indeed backwash its self clean or do you have to break it down?

I heard they are good filters.

I have one, but never used it. When I try to close the cover, I think that the o-ring is to thick and not sealing correctly.

Should the cover seal all the way just by pushing it down? cause mine does not.

The 354 polybead filters are excellent. I have 2 of them. They won't leak if you fit the O-ring correctly. It's a little tricky, but once you get it on, you do not have to take it apart to clean it. Attach a water hose to the drain, turn the 3 valves, open the drain, and you're back washing the filter. Clean your filter and drain water from the tank at the same time. Makes tank maintenance that much easier.

Fit the O-ring on the filter, then screw the cover on. This is what makes the seal. The cover puts pressure against the O-ring to the filter body.
