has anyone ever filled an ocean clear filter with bio max or any other bio filter media? i have 2 of the ocean clears witch take the cartridges and want to fill one of them with bio media. just want to know if its been done before. whats the best media to put with the least amount of maintenance?

I have not owned one of these filters but I do not see why it couldnt be done.
I like Efisubstrat Pro but I think the easiset and least costly filters would be some scrubbies or bio balls.
I like the idead of bio balls in there personally.

kinda off topic but how well does that filter do with mechanical filtration? i saw it came with a "reusable micron cartidge" is it any good?

arnt bio balls supposed to be used with a sump? i thought they wouldn't work right if they were completely submerged. i was thinking maybe like the ceramic rings or something like that. what do you think?

The purpose of any bio media is simply to provide as much surface area as possible to hold nitifying bacteria.

Since I never used one I cant comment, but the mircon cartridge is for water polishing. I see more salt water tank users using this filter.

i use the micron filter and it works great but clogs easily. when i set up the new system running two ocean clears i wont be using the micron pad. i think the 1st one im going to run something else but havnt decide what yet. the second will be filled with bio media and a felt pad for polishing. i have found the micron catridge to be a pain to clean.

used bio max, matrix and substrate pro.... all work perfect...
