I collected a piece of drift wood the beach a while back an now I've been soaking it for about 3 day changing the water everyday. Once the piece sinks will it be ok to use in my fresh water aquarium? Or is there always going to be too much salt in the piece

Sent from my iPhone using MonsterAquariaNetwork app

there may be other reasons not to use drift wood but i wouldn't worry about the salt. i always add salt to my tank anyway and i would hope that you do regular water changes.....

Let it soak for awhile in a tub, clean trash can, etc. with frequent water changes. I add bleach to mine to kill parasites and then soak in water & prime.

Howdy,

I actually brine all pieces of driftwood that I collect for disinfection. Bleach is unnecessary and dangerous.

This..i collect both beach wood and wood from lakes... I soak it and scrub bit for as long as possible with as hot as water as possible..my last peace soaked for a month with multiple changes a day with hot water.

Its work but cheaper and you can get some awesome peaces...been meaning to post pics of my last find.

could take months..I had a few peaces that took nearly 6 months.

Set it under or strap it to a rock, epoxy it to the bottom or drill holes and fill it with lead shot (cap the holes with silicone/epoxy).
That or start with a denser species of tree/wood.
All of my wood, even my bamboo sections, were marine beach driftwood. Very clean. Salt-water potentially naughty/noxious critters don't tend to persist with a) drying b) sun-baking and c) immersion in fresh-water.
