Any MFK'ers own one of these setups? I am picking one up Friday that is going to be an Orinoco drainage biotope..

I am trying to track down flow rates, hole diameters etc.. as well as opinions on noise? This tank is going in my bedroom and I would like to stay married, overflow noise is an issue.

So you made the trade?

Dang your quick Trent! Yeah this Friday if all goes to plan. Just working out sumps and pumps. The plan was to cut back tank and now I'm adding one in my bedroom.. No clue how I've managed to stay married this long lol. :D Any experience with these tanks you care to share?

No experience here but they sure look nice. What kind of sump and pump you looking for or is that included?

Well the seller wants to keep the pump, which is a Reefflo Dart. Too much flow for the 120g but not my 300g. Haven't worked that out just yet but will tomorrow. I am concerned how he was getting such high turn over with the Dart when from what I am reading, the overflows are 1" and will max ouut at 600 GPH each.

The plan: I am going to keep my sump and pump from my 220g, move it to my 125g, move the FX5 on my 125 to my 300 along with the FX5 from my 220, so I have two FX5's on the 300, trade the 220 (tank/stand/lights) for this 120 with sump and no pump, and sort out the pump on it later when I am done with the 300. I will have one extra sump that too small and a missing pump. That the still "working it out" is. Make sense lol? Would be easier if he would just let me have the Reefflo Dart so I didn't have to move everything arround.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I have a Mag 18 that I may part with.:D If interested PM me after you find out what's going on with the other one. Can't wait for some pictures of it setup.

Is that my Mag 18? How dare you.... lol

IMO, the more I use Mag Drive pumps, the more I think they are not suited for setups where you need silence. If you want it super quiet, go with a canister or take a look at the sump setup that Jose did on his planted tank. There are ways to make them really silent.

Keep in mind, that Reeflo is a $300 pump. Make sure that your trade isn't becoming unbalanced because he is keeping the pump. When trading a 220 for a 120, you better be getting something extra in the trade.

+1 on the pump situation. Although a Dart is a LOT of flow for a 120g tank. I decided it would be too much flow on my 220g tank, which I why I'm not using the one I have (I bought a mag 18 instead :D).

That is a very nice looking tank.

And one question, why trading a 220g for a 120g? Is it a deal with the wifey, or needing to fit into a smaller space?

i like the looks of that aqaurium. i had a 120 wide myself and it was 4' long by 2' wide and about 2.5' tall or so. i loved the width. the fish could turn and twist with no problems negotiating around the plants, rocks, or wood. i think you're on a good path already by selecting that size.

as for filtration, i had an eheim 2250 on mine. but the plants did the heavy lifting i think.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am moving all the fish in my 220 to my empty 300 and have no use for the 220 or want to have 2 tanks in the garage. The wife wants me to do a biotope for our favorite species and put in the bedroom. So it's a deal with the wifee and a space issue. I have 4', she never said anything about width or height :D. If I keep the Dart pump, it will go on my 300 gallon, not this setup.

I really like this set up because of the starphire glass, the open top and overflow. TBH I will probably just run a canister like Bobby suggested. This tank willl have a 3D Aquaterra background so filtration is hidden anyway.
