Hey everyone need your help. So i was just out scouting for octopus on the coast by malibu and found that most the coast is parks. Dose anyone know where there are some nice tide pools in the la area that are not inside a park so t can catck them without being hassled? I have found some very nice two spot octopus in that area but since its a park fish and game says you man remove anything from the park, so thats where im at. anyone know where i can go and not get hassled by the man lol

Thanks guys

I can't say I support that, it's illegal to capture them without a permit. I'd say either buy one, or see if there is a one use permit for capturing wild animals.

I dont know your rules and regs exactly...but you might just be able to go diving for them and use a slurp gun or the such to get them. In FL I knew people that slurped their own fish, and seeing how I think they allow you to spear octos I dont know why they wouldnt let you slurp them. Check your regs.

I understand your concern but after checking the regulations it is not illegal to catch them by hand in the tide pools as long as long as you are not in a protected area, they state that you can not use any tools. So that being said, i have done my research and i assure you i will not be breaking any rules witch is why i asked about places to go.

So the deal with it is every tide pool is technically a protected area unless it is on a private beach which then would make it illegal to go on the beach past 6' of the tide. I had a long conversation with a local oceanographer and it comes down to California really does not want you to do it.

This is what I heard as well, but if they are in tide pools then chances are you could find them outside the pools lol. So if you look in an area that has tide pools near by then you should be ok, just remember that some of those octos are some of the most poisonus critters on the planet. Though you could also get permission from the private beach owner to use their property.

by the way has anyone here ever kept one and could give me some advice?

thanks:D
